"When you ask for help you give others a sense of purpose. That's the beginning of a team."
-Hope King

Our hope is that this will be a positive experience for both you and the students you tutor. To be an effective tutor, it helps to have "content" knowledge, but equally important is the ability to listen and empathize with your students. Successful tutors have a caring attitude and the belief that with support all students have the capacity to learn and grow.

There are many benefits to tutoring for both the tutors and their students.

For students, benefits include:

  • a more individualized and structured learning experience

  • organizational skills

  • improved attitude and self esteem

  • stronger motivation

For the tutors, benefits include:

  • sense of well-being in this new role

  • increased subject specific knowledge

  • application of high-level thinking skills

  • empathy for the student
